Go on a BMW 7 series forum. I just read through a thread/picture gallery of a guy who bought 3 750Li's. All in the same color, same options. Only difference in the three was in the interior color. When asked why he didn't just buy a Rolls Royce, he replied he just wanted to get the interior colors he wanted. Another guy answered saying he wished his Lamborghini was available in BMW's Carbon black, which is a lovely color. When asked why he didn't get an Alpina B7, be answered he didn't like the dash.
I need to be a part of this forum.....
The guys on the 7 series forum are probably the nicest people on forums I've ever seen, I gotta give them that. No matter what anyone wanted to do with their car they would get help and support from fellow owners.

It's weird that no matter how expensive the car, their are always people on forums with knowledge to help you.

Yeah, they have people writing up DIY articles on $100k+ cars... They definitely have my respect.

Wow that's crazy. I love how wealthy people that are really into cars like this exist.

There's also the super-entitled, "Why doesn't the car company make a car completely based on my specifications and my specifications alone?!?" Car guys. You should see a particular SL/CL65 owner on the official, private AMG forums. Talks about the SLS he has parked, unmoving for the majority of the year at one of his "vacation homes" and how he's disgusted at how little marketing and engineering will consult him on how to better market the "65" cars to SF and Silicon valley customers. It is HILARIOUS. Most of us on there are enthusiasts that are taking our cars to track days, helping each other iron out issues with factory/tech support, but there are a few rare ones that act like that.

Yeah, they even have cool fixes for common problems. Someone wanted to upgrade the LED angel eyes on his car, but the unit he was interested in had common overheating issues, so instead of mounting the assembly in the headlight he fabricated a small tray to hold it and wrapped it in carbon fiber to make it look nice in his engine bay... Genius!

I'm a member on E90post, but I have the app bimmerpost on my phone which gives me access to forums for every BMW. I recommend checking it out.

The fact that there's a private AMG forum is the coolest thing on the planet. So much luxury. But like you said, there is probably the occasional asshat.

Yeah it's a total myth that all BMW owners are asshats.
There are a lot of BMW owners that know a lot about their cars and have been into cars for ages. And many of them wrench on their own cars.
All this anti BMW owner hate is out of control.

It's really nice. The MBUSA vice-presidents of AMG, the head tech advisor, marketing, etc, etc regularly post on their with answers to customer questions. They took feedback and videos from a few of us complaining about the responsiveness of the SLS' DCT in manual mode while driving hard (something you can see Harry from EVO and Chris Harris complaining about on early SLS models) and went to the engineers who adapted the software tweaks of for use in the SLS GT and issued a software update for existing customers that addressed and fixed our issues. There's a mod that reads all the posts and notifies the appropriate corporate position. There's exclusive giveaways for significant contributions to the forum, poster/print offers, things like that. I believe an important factor in their decision to bring the GLA45 over is the stink a lot made when the A45 wasn't coming. They listen and it's a good healthy place to discuss things (they also get race drivers to chime in every once in a while). It's a concept a lot of car companies should look at. You get your most enthusiasts customers giving you valuable feedback and they get better service in return.

Not a member but I'm aware of the site.
For a good laugh, here's a cut/paste from a post in the "SL" forum.
65 vs CA winter-grade fuel: still a failure for AMG: need to realize 65s are awfully cheap in CA; anyone w/common sense avoids crappy 63s w/MCT/DCT.....value to repeat 65 buyer is smooth and reliable 65s: AMG needs to debug 65s vs these issues (oppty cost of repeat 65 buyer solving a silly CEL is many $K/hr)....much of why 65 buyers pay an extra few dollars is to avoid hassles/oppty costs of SLS/63 and their relatively weak engineering: figure it out AMG: vast majority of highest profit margin 65s are repeatedly bought and daily-used in SF/Woodside/BH/NwptBch....there are reasons these 65 buyers despise crappily-engineered MCT/DCT, even if SLS/63 are a few bucks cheaper (at first glance)
If AMG can't optimize 65 engineering vs repeat CA customer needs, makes more sense to just drive C250 (not some CLA w/crap DCT or some SLS/63 w/crap DCT/MCT)
Again, AMG needs to better understand use case of highest profit margin customers in CA....who likely grtly value such stuff as safety/reliability/smoothness/ground clearance/tq for fast CA fwys/aural pleasure at any speed/superbly detailed interior finishes (not the crap finishes of SLS/63)
Troubling is the simply fugly steering wheel of '14 S65: a rather major aesthetic failure in any perf car.....hopefully, AMG solves this debacle before launch of S65 Coupe, where stuff like steering wheel, lack of Luddite roof antenna, etc are far more relevant to buyers who can drive and who have taste....as opposed to limo passengers in 3rdWorld cesspools like NYC/Lond/China, where neither smart engineers nor capable drivers nor those w/any taste are likely found.....

That is literally the coolest thing any company can do for their customers. The amount of attention they give to their customers is astonishing!

Similar hate to a lesser extent with AMG owners. We've got guys posting optimal suspension settings, tire pressures for various tracks on the forums for the CLK63 and C63 black series. There are guys tuning their SLS Blacks, etc. Car culture exists at multiple levels. It's just kinda surreal as the price goes up.

It's nice to know that the filthy rich do not have problems in getting a customized, made on purpose software update for the ECUs of their very expensive supercars. I'm waiting for Chevy to open our private forum, where I can ask for the improvement of the software of my Aveo bi-fuel, since when running on LPG indeed it's not yet perfect.

Forums are a two-headed beast.
One head is Dr. Who, and the other is Scut Farkas.

Yeah I spend a lot of time on E90post, sure it has a fair share of douches, but it also has tons of really nice people who genuinely want to give you advice on how to keep your car in good condition.
It seems like the higher the cost of the car, the nicer the people on the forums are. Maybe because the people who tend to be in $70K+ cars are usually a older than the 20 year olds that bought high mileage E90's.

Yeah, I don't have any experience with parts for a 7 series but I bet dealerships have a huge BMW tax on parts for it... Because most people who buy a 7 series can afford it!
People who research/DIY literally save thousands.

I guess if you don't wanna spend the money (or if you're a regular working guy who finally saved up enough to
just
afford a 7 series) this is perfect for you!

First off, that's really cool that there's a private forum! Also thanks for pasting that, I enjoyed reading it haha. It's also really cool that people at Mercedes actually listen and care about what you guys say. Put in a good word for a diesel E-class wagon ;)

Yeah, I don't think I'll be buying a 7 series in the near future but it's good to know I can still work on my own car and get help from people if I chose to!

Hating on people that have the money to get more expensive cars is so lame. Isn't it a good thing for those with money to buy performs cars instead of luxury land yachts?
If they didn't buy them new how could we later buy them used for cheap? Those models will cease to exist if nobody buys them new.
